The Bodega Antigua Casa de Guardia is a company first founded in 1840 by José de la Guardia, a Spanish gentleman than ended up appointed Governor of Segovia by the Queen of Spain, Isabel II. This circumstance favoured the selling of the business to Enrique Navarro, who left the property to José Ruiz Luque in 1895, who stayed at the front of the business all his life. After his death with no heirs in 1932, the business passed on to his nephew, José Garijo Ruiz, who became the most important support for the cellar during the 20th century. José Garijo Ruiz was concerned all his life about promoting and making Málaga wines in their purest essence known, both from the cellar and from the tavern he owned in the Alameda Principal, in Málaga city. From these two scenarios, he continued with the winemaking tradition, which has so come till our days. It was in 1997 when the Garijo family planned to go on beyond the original project while maintaining the quality heritage that have up to present day showed the wines of the Bodega Antigua Casa de Guardia, included in the Málaga and Sierras de Málaga designations of origin. At the same time, a great investment in facilities and machinery has taken place, thus allowing the elaboration of wines of great quality, without overlooking the traditional methods of winemaking. |
